I moved to Philadelphia in 1980 to follow a Sufi saint, Bawa Muhaiyaddeen, who has been my guide ever since whether alive (visible) or now invisible. He gave me the name Baseerah, meaning the "all seeing, the all comprehending." I don't think I yet live up to that name, but it is something to aspire to.
I also aspire to be a really good musician, and I play a 5-string cello, hammer dulcimer, and fiddle. I play (and dance) mostly for traditional Anglo/American dances, such as English Country, American contradance (& occasionally international). I also like to sing beautiful Colonial 4-part Shape Note Hymns - now experiencing a revival among folk singers and such. I also like to do traditional English ritual dance (fast exciting rapper sword), and Appalachian and English clogging. (great exercise!) (My younger daughter participates in all of the above.) I am just about retired (work part time in publicity) and love to travel to folk festivals and beautiful outdoor parks and wilderness, especially in the mountains and tropical forests & swamps in Florida (just got back from there). My husband Tom and I spend a lot of time watching natural phenomena such as sunsets, stars and other astronomical events.
My two darling daughters (18 years apart by 2 different marriages) are the joy of my life! Great(grown-up) kids! I now have 2 delightful grandchildren, ages 13 & 15.
